MOT ran out on 05/10/2015 whilst I was on holiday so got it booked in for today.

Failed on rear brake pipe from one side to the other excessive corrosion, didn't see it on my pre-mot inspection as well tooked away.

There is a connector block where 2 pipes meet on the offside one from the front and then this goes on to the nearside rear brakes, sure is rusty where there is no plastic covering on the pipe.

Booked back for the work to be done next Tusday so no Lexus until then, quoted £40-50 + VAT so for that price not worth the frustration, dirty hands and scraped knuckles attempting the job myself.

Lexus actually list the pipe as hose number 9 for around £30.00 which of course is preshaped but it would have been the end of the month before it was delivered to Lexus Derby.

Somewhat surprised it has only lasted 21 years :)

No advisories either.

Congrats Steve. A failure of the joyful kind :)

Though the finest of cars ought to be fitted with non-corroding pipe don't you think?

Exactly, the exhaust will never corrode so why are the break pipes not gold plated :)

Good stuff Steve.

A little expense for another year of motoring

I'm not into underside bling so I'd settle for the humble Kunifer.

It's all done.

Couldn't get it back into the garage until today so another years running at least.

The pipe must have been very weak as after I took a look at it and waggled it there was a pool of brake fluid all over the garage floor when I next went in there so the pipe was certainly shot.

A salutary reminder that corroding brake pipes need more than a bit of Hammerite to cover up for the MOT inspection.

Have had replaced most of mine, one I see goes right around the back of the engine bay. Also had added s/s hoses. Absolute confidence now in the brakes which when I got the Car were UNBELIEVEABLY DANGEROUS. Never experienced such poor brakes on any other car I've owned and yet it had an MOT..

Interesting that you mention can buy pre-shaped brake pipe. If I'd known I might have have saved my mechanic some work.

Ps Exhaust never corrodes?? - aren't you forgeting Steve that the flanges are mild steel, rot away and are a PITA.

My exhaust flanges are 16 years old and have surface rust, (which I've treated), but are nowhere near rotting away. There's another 5 years in them at least.
