External Cd Writer And Dvd

Folks,

I'm after a CD writer for my laptop and possibly one with a built in DVD. It has to be external and either PCMCIA, USB or Firewire.

I have found these 3 - are they any good? I don't want to spend more than £100. Any other reccomendations?

Zee - I can't advise but two things I would say are 1). have you got usb2 ( as it is lots faster than usb 1 ) and my son has had problems with firewire on a laptop ( works ok on my desktop but he bought a firewire card for his laptop and transfer to ipos is really slow and he can't access my 120 external firewire hard drive with it ).

Maybe others will comment on above for you.

Steve - I have a Sony Vaio (personal laptop) and Compaq Armada (Company) and both have USB 1. My Vaio has firewire and it seems to be fine with other external devices although not tried it with a cd-writer....

I think getting CD writer/DVD player combo for under £100 may be tricky. Have a look at the Philips jack Rabbit but I think that is around £130.

Yes USB 1 will limit the read speed of the drive.
