As above, anyone know of a specialist in the Peterborough or surrounding area. I've done a search and Japex in King's Langley seem to come highly recommended. They're about 90mins from me so if there was someone nearer that would be a bonus. Nearest

Nearest main dealer is Cambridge but I don't really fancy that.

Thanks.

You could try Fensport, they're in Chatteris which is about 1/2 hour or so from Peterborough :)

Thanks, do you know what they do? From their website it seems like a parts co. I need diagnosing and fixing :)

Yes they can do all types of work, from basic servicing to popping you a turbo on if you want :winky: , give them a ring & speak to Tim and tell him I sent you (although that may not necessarily get you preferential treatment  )

Many thanks, they're much nearer than Japex.

@janey Back to the drawing board. Spoke with Tim. He, like me, thinks it needs to be plugged into Lexus Diagnostics which he doesn't have. So, the next question is, does anybody know if any independents have the right diagnostic facilities. If not it's a visit to the main dealer :(

Two problems, neither very serious at the moment.

1. Engine is a little hesitant on take off, fine once foot is down.

2. Slight transmission "clunk" sometimes when re-accelerating.

Neither very pronounced, but irritating.

Thanks

I would think that most decent honest garages would be able to diagnose and rectify. Modern cars are much of a muchness regarding how the mechanics of the cars operate. Until I moved to my current address 3 years ago I always used Lexus dealers for 10 years but have found that my local village garage is at least as good as main dealers, if not better.

It's been to my usual garage who haven't fixed it. They don't have Lexus diagnostics which they think they need as does a specialist I spoke to today.

It really would be altogether easier if I had a read out.

I'm aware of some of the possibilities of the causes of the problems, but a read out should help focus the search without spending an age eliminating each possibility, one at a time.

Normally I avoid main dealers like the plague.

I'm sure you are aware of the limitations of OBD. To my mind best solution is to get it on a Lexus system and read by someone who knows that system.

Clearly I would prefer not to go to a main dealer, but as there's no-one near me with the kit, then that's what I'll have to do.

I hope they can find easy, quick and inexpensive fixes for these issues.

Three years on I'm still looking for a local specialist or just a decent garage/mechanic in Peterborough.

I need a service and my local place has been replace by new houses. Any ideas folks?

Fensport are a bit far away, but any decent non-specialist would suffice.

Thanks folks.

Honestly - Toyota dealer might be a good bet. They can do all the work on a Lexus except warranty stuff. If your car isn’t in warranty a Toyota garage seems a good idea.

Thanks Steve I booked it in yesterday at the Toyota dealer. Seemed the best idea. I'd been hesitant going to them given my experiences/knowledge of certain other main dealers.

I nearly fell over when they gave the price for a "silver service", a good two hundred quid less than the place I used to go to. Bodes well as I'm thinking of buying a year old Rav4 Excel AWD

from them. I'd actually prefer an Rx450h but the Lexus dealer is an hour away, but that's an hour on the A14 which must be the worst road in the UK....
