Rx300 2001 - Random Cut Out

Recommended Posts

I would say yes really really quiet and constant in the majority - just sometimes it's hard to describe its just like it has a little rev whilst ticking over not to increase the revs to a constant but in an increase / decrease sort of way.

It sounds like it could be a sticky iscv - idle speed control valve.

If I don't drive my MR2 for a couple of months, it sticks and the problem manifests usually when driving along until engine warms up, then when you come to a stop for a roundabout or junction, the engine stalls.

The iscv is usually located after the air-box (filter) and on the throttle body.

Usual operation allows air to bypass it via little breather channels (when coming to a stop as an anti-stall device) that get blocked over time on our older cars with sludge from petrol vapours and unburnt carbon from the EGR system - it may take several blasts with old school carb cleaner spray, which you can blast into the throttle body up the air filter hose whilst engine is running.

If you can some how let the iscv soak in carb cleaner or get a cotton bud into the little breathers, you can really clean it out good and your problem will disappear!

Let us know how you get on!

Chris.
