I'm in the process of getting the recently purchased 1999 Celsior with LPG back on the road.

It needs a few things for the MOT which are on order.

I don't intend to keep both.

Which one do you guys suggest I keep?

1990 MK1 or 1999 Celsior with LPG?

Do you also want a 1994 C-F packaged Celsior to add to your collection, never seem to have the time to finish the one I have.

Haven't forgotten your capacitor sets I will get them to you eventually.

Personally I would keep the series IV,it was the ultimate version of the LS400s with everything ironed out.

Have you managed to sort out the sat nav problem?

Not yet. I have bought a Ls400 satnav unit which hopefully arrives tomorrow.

Being without satnav is not too bad, but not being able to switch on or control the fan, a/c etc is quite annoying.

No rush with the caps. Ian is going to fit them for me and he's away to Australia for a month :)

Count:

MKIV - 1

MK1 - 0

Rudy, as Steve says, the mk4 (Celsior) is the final and best version of the 400. It has less known faults and more power. And on LPG much more economy! Also, as it is 9 years younger, it's a no brainer.

Points taken, but what about value?

My mk1 is in a near mint condition. The Celsior not so much at present. It will need money spent on it to get the exterior looking as good as the mk1

.... is there any rust appearing underneath the Mk1 yet ?

have the UCAs etc been done on the Mk1 ? and when was the cambelt last done on the Mk1 ?

These major potential costs will sway you maybe !

Mk 1 for occasional/historical outings.

Mk 4 for more general usage?

I like lpg too.....saw a Smart Forfour with lpg! 90mpg?

@ Malc

I did the upper control arms 2 months ago on the mk1, just did them this afternoon on the Celsior.

Cam belt mk1 was changed less than a year ago(non interference engine)

No record of a cam belt change for the Celsior.

The underneath of the mk1 is spotless - no rust anywhere.

.., wot a dilemma then for you ................ heaven knows ..... can you really not keep both ??

The Mk1 would be better off doing low annual miles I guess and the Mk4 would be more of a daily and journeying car ................ but having said that, the USA car with nigh on a million miles underlines just how both could probably be used for everyday long driving etc .................

If it was me, I would probably keep both tbh :whistling: ........ but then again I probably wouldn't have put myself in such a difficult ( but nice ) position of having to make such a choice

It is a fairly nice position to be in, I agree.

Maybe I'll just put the VVTi engine in the mk1 ... :)

I think my wife would have trouble getting me to part with either one!

Keep them both! The LPG makes sense for everyday use and the Mk1 for classic/special trips?

LPG is nice, but I live quite rural and my nearest LPG filling station is about 30 miles away......

Maybe I should keep both.....

Multipoint system. Fitted in 2010 with certificate and invoice

Would you change the Cambelt yourself on the Celsior? If not, and knowing that it may not have been changed for some time, its an expense to consider and worry about. As you say earlier cars are non-intereference and the Mk2 has had a belt change.

As neither cars are worth a lot in todays market I'd keep the one that I most liked the style of. Having never driven a later Car I can't compare, but I was tempted to buy one recently and so, lesson learned from you as I can't drive two cars at once and my OH doesn't drive,I won't give myself the dilemma of which car to drive.

If they are both garaged and you drive regularly then use them both for a little longer until it becomes clearer which you prefer. Presuemably its cost you additional insurance and tax and some parts . Will you break even or make a profit on selling?

Stuart

ps expect lexus chap to be phoning you rubbishing the marque if you sell one! His game is well documented.

Maybe the decision has been made a bit easier - the celsior has developed the dreaded 'click' :(

Then again, it's only a £13 part and it's just time I'm investing to fix it...hmmm...problem remains :)

Decision made.

I'm keeping both!

Ordered the solenoid repair kit and ordered 4 new tyres for the Celsior as well. She's spoiled :)

:)

In my case it was the missus who had said all along to keep both :)

I wasn't so sure at that time.....

Good decision, Rudy - why have only one LS400 when you can have two?

If you could garage the Mk1, then it could be used in the summer months - 6 months tax and insurance. Does you wife not drive?
