Servicing Cost Rx450h

Recommended Posts

Whilst I am logged on would like to pass on my recent experience.

My RX was due for its service, I usually take my cars to a very trusted garage I know locally. They are so good that some main agents (not Lexus) send cars to them that they have trouble fixing so very well respected by all. For some reason I thought I would see what our Lexus main agent wanted to service my car and their initial pitch was £740 for an oil change, brake fluid change, spark plugs and air filter, cough cough splutter WHAT !!!!. After I had booked into my local garage they came back with a price of £430. The cost at my local garage although I didn't have the spark plugs renewed due to the low mileage of my car was £188 for the same. Tell me do Lexus mechanics walk around in silk overalls, have platinum socket sets and bejewelled tooled boxes and prance around saying my lexas is bigger than yours and do some people actually pay the prices they ask. It is beyond me how they justify what I consider to be an outrageous price for simple servicing. Oh it was said that this is a big service because they have to change the spark plugs ooooh really wow. I reckon some must actually pay up, I also reckon that this is a good business opportunity for someone set up as a specialist who could easily compete with those prices I'm sure.

Have a read of the Lexus servicing prices in the link below, what I don't understand is the +100 service is cheaper than the +60 service but includes the cambelt replacement if fitted.

Sorry must go, I need to polish my diamond encrusted crankshaft puller :)

To be fair £120 difference for a major service between main dealer and a good local garage doesn't seem bad to me - to get piece of mind it's genuine Lexus parts, Lexus service stamp, car picked up, cleaned and dropped back, the backup of a brand with the best customer service levels it would get my money!

They don't include the replacement belt cost in the 100+ service - only an inspection.

What part of the 100K service justifies the £645 cost?

I've had the water pump/belt/tensioner replaced already on mine, so the coolant should have been replaced too. Should I still expect to pay the full cost of a 100K service at a Lexus dealer?

If you don't need the coolant then your dealer should deduct that cost. The 100k service includes inverter coolant replacement, valve clearance check, MAF cleaning and timing belt inspection/replacement over the standard major service

Thanks. That red coolant must be expensive.

You are paying for the marble flooring, the 'free' coffees, and the massaging of your ego.

Not exactly - I paid £990 for 3 services - 2 majors and a minor as I paid for the 10k one myself so have 20,30 and 40k in the plan.

What you pay for is - if something gets botched up, they'll fix it immediately - not like the independents who sometimes refuse to say they've caused it. Also, you get the hybrid healthcheck included free which is ESSENTIAL for the hybrid warranty + they take care of your car - ive had 3 services, an MOT and a full tyre change - not a single scratch on my car. I went into the work area and they cover the whole car with cloths including the interior to make sure they dont get it dirty.

Having said that - if you have a car over 5 years old you may as well go for Lexus Essential Servicing which is cheaper than the full Lexus service.

Well a few interesting replies. I am interested in how Rayann got 3 services for £990 when I was initially offered one service for £745 but that is perhaps because I bought my car from a VW dealership at a very good price and not like a friend of mine bought his from lexus and paid about 10K more for I think a 6 month newer car. I would have paid £300 per service myself if it had been offered. Don't quite understand the maths of the reply "To be fair £120 difference for a major service between main dealer and a good local garage doesn't seem bad to me" £430-£189 =£241 doesn't it and £745-£189=£556 oh and a Lexus oil filter was used as I had asked for as well as fully synthetic oil etc. I do take the point that some garages don't take much care of your car with respect to soiling or scratching but then do Lexus fill an inspection sheet and get you to sign on hand over of the car to them for the service if you take my point. I wouldn't mind paying £300 that would be reasonable for the Lexus stamp etc but the prices I was quoted I thought were off the scale. I always taken great care of my cars and have had compliments from time to time which acknowledge such and I will continue to do so with or without main agents.

It does depend on how many miles are on the car in the first place. There are a few extra things that are done at 60k miles but £745 is the upper limit. If you go to amother dealer they should give you a cheaper price.

Worth asking for a 3 year service plan. They generally work out cheaper. Like I said I only paid £990 and I get a full valet, golf club membership, 10% off parts and labour etc etc

I've been looked after pretty well by Lexus Bradford. MOT for £27 and all tyres fitted for £50. I can't really complain on the value front

As for an inspection shsef, my service slips always have a visual inspection sheet showing prior scratches. Ive taken great care of my car over the past 3 years so nothing for me apart from 1 kerbed wheel which shows up each service on the sheet

Rayann thanks for your reply.

I do agree that Lexus are certainly looking after you, given the prices you have quoted. I will perhaps try and give our local dealership the opportunity to redeem itself next year and offer me some sensible prices like you. I think perhaps you get the number one treatment because maybe you purchased your car from them whereas as I mentioned I purchased my car from a VW dealership which our local lexus dealers couldn't even get close to the price I paid for the car they were at least 5000 more so It wouldn't be likely that I will purchase a car through them in a hurry.

As I have said I will give them a nudge next year and try and sell it to them, the virtues of offering reasonable servicing and MOT prices etc.

I didn't purchase the car from them. I purchased from Lexus Stockport which is part of RRG group. Then RRG took over Lexus Bradford which was WMG or something like that before so don't know. I guess it depends where you live. They wouldn't survive in Yorkshire if they had expensive prices.....tight Yorkshiremen and all lol

Hi

Just to say that in June, Lexus Cardiff gave me a quote for my RX450h (54,000 on clock) for a 3year service plan. This was for a full service at 60,000 miles Dec 2015, Intermediate 70,000 miles Dec 2016 and a full service at 80,000 miles Dec 2017, the amount to pay was £1,255.17.

I did not purchase the vehicle from them it was a private purchase, the deposit for the service plan is £397.69 followed by 17 payments of £50.44 until 06/11/2016.

Not sure that as a second vehicle, I would do the 10,000 mileage a year to warrant such a plan for a fixed service?

That price works out cheaper buddy. Go for it. However if you're car is over 5 years old go got lexus essential servicing

Thanks for your post, the RX is January 2010 so 5 years old in Jan 2016 not had the 60,000 expensive service yet!

Also I think that I might only do 6,000 miles a year, not the 10,000 they have quoted for, so I would be 4,000 miles a drift, then 8,000 and finally 12,000 for the final service in Dec 2017?

Perhaps better to have the full service at 60,000 then essential from then on?

Yep that's a good option.

However, some lexus dealers give you a normal service and then just discount the price. That way they'll give you a Lexus stamp. Some dealers give you the essential service - this doesn't give you a service stamp but they give you a certificate

I bought my RX 450 from Inchcape Lexus, Guildford in March this year . It's a 2010 car with 60000+ miles on the clock with full Lexus history . Having owned an RX 300 for 5 years before , I knew the price of servicing , so took out their Four Year Service Plan that covers two full services and two intermediates including parts for just over £1400 . It's interest free and repayments were just over £40 a month .
