Hello. I am new to the club and this is my first posting. I hope someone out there can help me.

I have just purchased a 2006 GS300 SE-L in Canterbury Blue . It has a number of stone chips, probably about a dozen, on the bonnet I would like to do something about.

Can anyone advise -

  1. Bonnet respray or chip repair specialist ?
  2. Approximate cost of a bonnet respray ?
  3. Can anyone recommend a Bodywork Repairer in the North West. I live near Blackpool ?

Thanks

Stewart

Have a check of the bonnet, is there any rust right at the front of the bonnet towards the headlights, I say this because thet are prone to rust around that area and if it is, take it to your local lexus dealer, you have a 12 year corrosion warranty and they will fit a brand new bonnet on it.

Just a thought - won't the 12 year warranty only apply if the car has a full Lexus history with anti-corrosion checks done?

No it doesn't, mine didn't have a full lexus service history, it was part independent aswell and they still did it.

Thanks for the advice. Sadly (?) no rust on the bonnet so I will have to fund myself.

Anyone got any recommendations of a bodyshop near Blackpool ?

Anyone have any details on this? I have rust on the front lip and stumbled across this thread. Would love to have something to back it up, in case my local lexus folks aren't overly keen to resolve for free.

Yep. Look in your service manual, it will tell you in there you have a 12 year rust/corrosion warranty.

I had 2 mk3 Gs300 both 2005 models and both had brand new bonnets fitted through Lexus main dealer. One was last year.

Thanks messi. Checked recall website today, and says it's due a recall, so will try to get whatever that is done, plus the bonnet. Trying to look at their service offerings to, but website won't let me download brochures to see what's included with each, so hopefully with a big service they may be more inclined to do bonnet lol.

Cheers and here's keeping fingers crossed

Glad you got it sorted and happy with the outcome Stewart. I've had mixed results with paint jobs, so good to see a decent job done.

Thanks messi.

Not had chance to ring yet, as trying to figure if I want to get a service done as well. Would normally do myself, but the free hybrid check, valve clearance check and hybrid coolant change of the 100k package might swing it for once and mean I get a day off, result.

Did you have rust on the wings as well David, or did they do them for other reasons? Glad you got it sorted, I'm heading to local dealer today to see what they say on recall and bonnet rust. If they decent then likely a 100+ service and tpms diagnosis and repair to, fingers crossed eh.

I'd meet, but far too far for me I'm afraid lol

Just for info I had a quote from Lexus for a full bonnet respray, including blending in the wings, on my 4 month old RC due to a stone chip. £1100. Only way to get an invisible repair. I was also offered a FOC touch in using the touch-up paint stick, which I'll opt for. Nothing to loose...

my bonnet had rust marks on the front edge and also paint chips plus several paint chips on both wings . I was expecking them just to repaint the bonnet but no they said I needed a new bonnet . They fitted a new bonnet and painted it and the wings to blend in the paintwork and did a fantastic job  well done Lexus Bolton

Glad they did a decent job of sorting it for you David. No such luck for me, yet, service person off till Tuesday, will ring me next week and hopefully we can go from there, although sales chap said I'll have to back for photos and paint depth check to see if it can be covered by warranty (there is the rust, fix it, surely?)
