Don't Lexus charge for extended checks or services ? At that millage things like coolant flush differential oil transmission oil caliper grease power steering fluid flush brake flush ... them come to my mind...

What does Lexus do for 329?

Thnk a lot of garages do a lot of checking or looking and then advise you require x y z for a substansial price. Any one can top water and check fluid levels.

Its crazy prices circa £100.00 an hour labour i know they have a showroom and staff to pay but the cost of oil and filter circa £60.00.

Brake fluid change price in york 40.00 most indy garages, are they not electronic stearing greaseing calipers is easy do it yourself and a sure way of keeping costs down for an hour or 2 of your own time.

I am thinking of getting a full check from lexus and getting mot done from them. Then whatever they point out I repair it...

Comes down again to extensive checking which I won't know or can't do as I am not trained... nor have a ramp.

Any idea how much they charge for a complete car check and also mot ? Are they the same thing or different tests?

Dont really know but dont suppose it will be cheap in your neck of the woods. Must admit i have access to a pit at work and also a lot of mechanics.

So i am at an advantage, i own a lot of tools myself done engine change clutches gearboxes suspension and the like.

Already done a brake service since owning car next job will be oil filter and new plugs, read about the plugs been a pain but will do the job myself.

Electrics are a bain but have a diagnostics which is quite a good one at finding faults. Im not a mechanic but have worked on all cars i have owned and many more i have not. It boils down to common sense and remember what you have taken off from where, i will admit if you dont have the tools it can

become expensive when you may only use a tool once. Best source of informations come from these sites people have done jobs and any pitfalls and tools you may need.

last car i owned had a full service 1000 mls before i bought it at dealer. got a fault evap system ie air con filter and charcoal cannister

The air con filter had never been changed the amount of leaves that fell in the car was unbelievable, all ticked items in service book when i checked most were not done. Not saying all dealers are same just saying we checked this and that which is easy peasy, as above says look at your bill three quarters is labour and vat. Full service history on older cars means nothing use your eyes and ears best tools going.

I know its hard to beleive i bought the oil filter tool before the car reading about the pitfalls forwarned and forarmed.

When I bought my car from Preston motors said done service but didn't change air or pollen filter, air filter was filthy just by chance thought check it boy like urs was full of bugs, leaves when I get service rather watch em what they do now I change pollen filter once a yr air filter every 6 months had service done by lexus on 80,000 again no filter changed had to change myself

Yes i know what you are saying i have not looked at this service book properly, what i am saying on my last car these were parts ticked as changed and billed as done.Every service is different normally the more the miles the more the cost, which stands to reason.

Oil and filters can be done by most people on a drive oil air pollen and fuel filters, washer bottle should always be topped up engine coolant and brake fluid should only be done if you feel 100% you can do it properly. Its just think what your doing and see how people have done jobs your not familiar with.

I took the stereo out to fit a dash cam, watched on utube a few times and went and didi it easier than it looked to be honest. But and its a big but damage can be done if you dont use the right tools then you better have deep pockets parts for these babys are not cheap.

Cartridge start weeping fluid if the springs shot they normally break no warning just go, what makes you ask what mileage have you done.

Speed humps are the bain of cars now suspension and steering parts also tyres with tracking.

I've been fortunate enough since 2002 to have mostly have brand new cars, some of which I've sold before they have needed an MOT, so always stuck to main dealers (I factoror main dealer service costs in when considering a car purchase). I've had 1 service done on the Lexus - which is 5 years old - and did it at Lexus under essential care. It needed new front discs and pads and a rear caliper replacing in addition to service and MOT. I got a quote from a local garage - trusted by other family members - and it came in £150 less than Lexus. But I went with Lexus in the end. Why?

Just peace of mind really. And I suppose I got a full valet for free. And a brand new CT200 F sport for the day. And my service book maintained as full Lexus history. Worth the extra £150? To me yes.

The only time I went out of the dealer network for one of my cars was for a Mondeo which needed rear suspension bushes changes. Cost me £180 whereas Ford dealer wanted £400. So my main dealer habit will only go so far...and its not only "premium" brands that can take the you know what.

Lexus have offered me a 2 year service plan for £23 a month to cover the next 2 services. This is the same price as a Ford service plan I had for the Mondeo so doesnt feel expensive. My only hesitation is commiting to Lexus for a car aleady nearly 6 years old...

When its a new car its different james, as you have said my car is nearing 9 yrs old. When i bought it full history did not really count, you can be shown every bill in the world its not worth the paper its writtten on.

Your eyes and ears are your best tools when purchasing anything,if it does not seem right walk away. Lexus have been ringing me about something thats about to run out, i have missed the calls and they have been informed when im home. I take it must be a service plan of some sort, i dont have a dealer where i live so suppose it would be toyota. But at the prices they charge thats a no no, i am pretty hands on i keep my cars a number of years upward of 4

thats why i pay the extra for low milage when im able. My vehicles are serviced more than most and always immaculate in and out, no food drink smoking in my cars. If they need a part ithey get it simple as that .
