hi all, iwas looking at upgrading my computer next year and as such need a new MB - i had a look at a DFI board - good reviews etc but only thing is i have 3 cd drives and 2 hard drives - problem is i think i will need an expansion card to handle the extra cd drive - but the bloke in the shop reckons the MB will handle all the drives - i dont believe him as there are only 2 ide slots on the boards.

someone have a look and let me know what u think please

motherboard link

cheers

rob.

It's got SATA (serial ATA) interfaces on it Rob - they will support two devices each, but only if you hava SATA devices.

As it is, the MOBO in the link will only support a total of 4 devices with EIDE interfaces, so you're right in thinking that you'll need an expansion card to be able to use you're extra device.

Or, get an EIDE to SATA converter like this:-

Seems a good board although you could go for this one, http://usa.asus.com/products/mb/socketa/a7...-d/overview.htm, which is basically the same spec but will save you £15 (unless you want the UV glowing expansion sockets?)

Both available from here:

i have one dvd/cd drive a dvd burner and a fast cd writer, i could do away with the cd/dvd drive but its fast so would prefer to keep it.

i was planning on getting an amd 2600+ t/bred - i was looking at that board as its meant to be very good for overclocking, apparently u can take the 2600 ( 2.something ghz) upto about 3ghz with no real probs?

thanks for the advice - ill have a look around and see what there is.
