What on earth are you on about? There is always oil in the autobox with or without the engine running. If the box is in N then the oil will not be circulating/moving as the gears are static and do not need lubricating. Simple answer is that coasting in N for any reason is foolhardy.

Possibly but it still wont lubricate the gears as the pump is controlled via engine revs which will not be enough to turn the pump at coasting revs.

I knew someone who used to coast in a gs300, guess what happened, his gearbox failed and so he sold the car

Thinking about it now, he also did it in his sc430 and needed a new gearbox aswell

So hold on do you guys coast to save fuel? If so and you wanted to save fuel, why buy a big car knowing it's a guzzler and if your that worried about fuel why not lpg it? Unless it's a direct injection which of course you can't lpg but they are good on fuel. Well my mk3 gs300 was really good on fuel

NO, i was coasting to cool my engine, when I had a dodgy rad.

just wanted to clear up that coasting in N with a Auto Box does not kill it, i would not recomened doing it as every user manual suggests you are not in contol.
