............. excellent result,a piece of superb engineering and a good life ahead and all for half banger money .. well done ............ must be worth all of that weighed in for scrap !!

( I'll wash my mouth with soap and water ! ) ...

I wouldn't have hesitated to buy it, brilliant, you could possibly get £1500 for it now.

Yes it was advertised on Gumtree.

Bad pictures and a 1 sentence description.

I agree Malc. A Ls400 in this condition is worth £1500 all day. Especially an early one I reckon.

How long had the seller owned it? I suspect not long probably bought it only to discover he couldn't afford to run it

PS you have HPI'd it and it ain't nicked :innocent:

Ah yes, but I couldn't work out how that was a spoiler lol

I think I should reveal that my spectacles come from Shanghai.

I'm envious. In late spring I searched for month for a good LS400 to no avail.

Just don't tell me it has the tool kit & that the A/C works. Promise?

What a bargain, I've just done the A/C on my 2004 LS430 and I could have bought two of them AND filled the tank on both of them for what I spent. LoL

Posted

It does have the tool kit, but the a/c does not work :(

Being a 1991 it is most likely to have the R12 system, however the High and Low side fittings are R134A.

There's a sticker in the engine bay saying it has been filled with RS-24 (an R12 drop in replacement) and dye was added. There is no date on the sticker though.

I had an RS24 refill in my Mk1. It was ICE cold! So much so, that on switching on the a/c (stupidly starting at the coldest setting), the sudden chill-shock cracked one of the spokes on the nylon centrifugal fan. The result? The fan almost shook itself to bits, and the vibration broke one of the o-ring seals. Bye bye refrigerant!

funny you say that.

My blower in the highest setting makes quite a noise and also vibrates.

Ruud, what's the likelihood of you really needing aircon in Argyll ???

Might just not be worth the fixing tbh

Malc,

Believe it or not, we do get warm weather - sometimes :)

We also get a LOT of rain and damp weather. A/C is also great to quickly remove any condensation on the windows.

Plus.....I prefer a car where everything works :)

... ahh, the pursuit of perfection .... and why not, good idea

Cruel - but fair! :)

And to think this beauty was advertized on Gumtree! not even fleabay but bleeding Gumtree of all places

Once again do you know how long the idiot sorry seller had owned it?

he hasn't owned it very long. From July last year.

The owner before him was his colleague who had owned it for 15 years

Posted

Thought as much as he clearly didn't know what he had. How many owners has it had? (just being nosey & I won't try to nick it promise :whistling: )

Enough of these remarks, thank you.

Another Easter 1971, or an October 15th 2013 could leave you unprepared for the heat,

It is quite warm today mind you :)

Tomorrow 25 degrees, dark clouds and rain - lovely sticky weather over here :)

The S320 is a 1999, but has gone.

Unfortunately no midge defence system installed.

Then again, the midges here are Rambo midges and the only thing that seems to help is spray yourself in with Avon Skin so soft oil in a way that it drips off you so the midges that land on you, drown :)

Posted

A/C fixed - Just topped it up with a can from Halfrauds and voila - ICE cold air :)

I did have to replace a brake light bulb! How dare they fail after only 25 years of service!!!

Posted

That's the one. You get a tenner back when you hand in the empty can

Posted

If it only last a month it will probably suffice for the expectation of Summer weather - I found this to be the case with my S320 one year.

Posted

I'm hoping it'll last longer. Time will tell.

It is lovely driving inside a fridge in this weather :)
