In the final figure I have included all those I saw on the journey down to Cornwall and back home again. I have also included all those that had Foreign number plates, also included are all those I saw on garage forecourts for sale, also included are all those I saw on TV while watching TV in Cornwall.

Once a tolerance of + or - .29932 recurring has been applied to the final figure to allow for fluctuation of the Japanese Yen the answer is 0. The figure may explain why I got strange looks everywhere I went and people wanting to come and look and talk about the car when I parked up.

Oh those Cornish roads loved my LS400. Mike.

Erm...err......No, I would well out of order if I raised an issue I think? ;) (Darn it, can't do emoticons with this tablet).

Mike & Malc, please stop this. I was enjoying my 430 annonimity until you two started :(

And btw: 430 rear boxes and pipes are stainless after all. Not sure a out the innards though.

I travelled a total off 2347mls last week from north Scotland down to Fleetwood,Scarborough,Newcastle Edinburgh Glasgow Aberdeen Grimsby and I saw NONE and only a handful of other types of lexus's...oh wait I lie I saw a mk2 LS around Middlesbrough,

I'm now back home and took my LS into town and parked up next to a Lexus is220 and the guy and his mrs came over to me and actually asked what kind of Lexus mine was lol as he had never seen one like mine before

Oh I got such a big head when I told him all about my LS and showed him around it

Should that be - I was so proud of my LS that I showed him around - I know I would.

Down in Devon two years ago, had GS300 and iS220 owners wanting to have a chat and a peek. The GS chap had given up his LS400 for a the 300, a nice car for sure, but I love the classic look of my Mk4.

Apart from seeing a stealership from the Brumislam tram, the only LS I have seen in two months of ownership was one of those noisy unreliable 460s in Plymouth. Though I did see a Swallow Doretti on the M5; & there was a new Lamorghini at the party last night. Tacky looking thing with black wheels & yellow calipers to match the body. I ask you. who would want such a thing?

There are an awful lot of LS400 cars on second hand car pitches and people with no prior knowledge of the series are scared of them .I have spoken to people over the years who feel they are such a technically sophisticated car they are bound to go wrong and cost a fortune to put right this especially from the over 50s who remember old automatics that always had trouble .

The liklehood over the next 5 years is that a very small niche of 400 owners will have much admired and rare examples of this mould breaking phenomenom as the less cared for meet their ultimate end.

Really kept my eyes peeled yesterday on my journey to Bedford and back via the A.1. An insignificant journey compared to you other intrepid explorers? Covered a total of 217 miles and saw............. 1. GS300.

Loathecliff........one of those noisy 460s.

Wash your mouth out :)

I owned a 400 for 15 years and now my 460; I consider the 460 to be a much better machine - albeit much more complicated.

However, it doesn't have a cam belt which needs changing, or an oil cooler in the radiator which can fail.........sound familiar? :)

I saw an L reg 400 in Barnsley yesterday, in dark blue. It was having a couple of new tyres fitted and looked good. I did a double take as it's such a rare sight. That said, I live in quite a small pit village and there is another one local to mine

Recently, I counted 10 BMTroubleyou's in our village in the space of 10 minutes. On a trip to Israel earlier in the year, I hardly saw a beemer whole time I was there. I blame this popularity in the U.K. on Top Gear and their fanatical promotion of German uberwagens. People are so easily swayed by all the hype. Who holds the record number of wins in the annual JD Power reliability survey? Here's a clue-- it begins with "Lex" and ends in "us". Nuff said.

As Malc has said, here on the Continent the LS is a rare beast indeed. In the last 2 years I have seen one other 460 and a 400. I was in a bar the other day with some friends, who are all BMW owners. The conversation was all about which model and what extras they had. They asked me about the equipment on mine. I just smiled smugly and said that I had a Lexus LS - and there are no extras.......it comes complete :)

Small pit villages must attract LSs - we live in a old pit village and there are two LSs within a quarter of a mile of our house.

One is a 2005 LS430 several houses further down our road (the person living there previously had a 2001 LS430 before he bought the 2005 car) and the other is a 1996 LS400 owned by a person who lives on the main road going through the village.

Hi You LS folks - I have owned my LS400 for just 6 months now, but despite daily local commute in Surrey, and trips to car shows, air shows, etc, around SE England, I am amazed that I have only had 4 LS400 sightings in that time.

Where is everybody . . . . . ?

Posted

There's a gold (beige) Ls400 driving around my area. I do usually spot several Ls400's in my village as we nearly have a million visitors a year.

Yes he does but you need to live in the land of make believe to have a chance of seeing it. Mike.

I am now pleased to be a member of this exclusive (400) club. I have only seen two in my town. One is a lovely MK IV that NEVER seems to leave its drive. The other is a gold one (L - reg). They are getting rarer.

Just come back from holiday in USA . Flew into Los Angleses then up Pacific Highway to Oregon. I have never seen so many Lexus's. Every other car seemed to be a Lexus of some type, and there are literally hundreds of mainly LS 400's, obviously in daily use. They are a massively popular car over there and you can see they were obviously built for the American market. It was a delight to experience.

Scotland to Cornwall not 1 LS. Was a lovely drive. Very comfy and quiet. Quite fun around the twisty coastal roads. Not so much fun trying to pass oncoming traffic on the single track roads. V8 fantastic though. Some very steep hills no problem whatsoever. Only issue I had was trying to reverse on gras up a hill. No traction. A couple of mats and a shove from my lads soon sorted that. Lost the number plate in a bush though.
