Hi All!

Only had 1 key so I bought a replacement from eBay, (£45), as was told I could get it re-programmed to the car. Did lots of research and YouTube vids say you can do it if the last 4 numbers on the circuit board are the same. It's a 3 button smart fob and everything checked out with the numbers.

Rang lots of Auto Locksmiths, Cardiff area, and only 1 said he could do it, (£75 plus VAT), but after trying he said it could not be done as they've added 'something' to the chip to prevent it from being reprogrammed. He said he had previously done a 2007 IS220D, but it was not possible to do it on this 60 plate model?

Is this right? Or is there someone who can do it with the right tools? Obviously Lexus will not entertain this as they want to sell me a new one. Any advice would be helpful!

Regards

Ade :-)

As far as I am aware this can only be performed by a Lexus dealership.

This question has been asked a few times....and to the best of my knowledge that was always the outcome.

Sorry......but if you find a way do let us all know.

As Normski above ...

Its only a Lexus option - it has been on the forum a few times and its quite expensive for them to do - I think they can do it with a key you have but it doesn't reduce the cost any.

I had it done on a key I took to a local locksmith a few years ago for an IS200 and it cost peanuts (£12 if I can remember) but the cars now are more advanced with their security.

Thanks guys, I did try to search for a thread, nothing relevant came up though. They said they wouldn't do it with a second hand key I bought. I am selling the car and wanted it to be perfect, may have to shell out the £300 :-(

Can confirm that after extensive Internet research and efforts from a couple of people I know in both car and locks trade.....I ended up walking into a Lexus dealerships parts department.

Over £300 later I was the proud owner of a spare key. They did run through some of the lock functions and cleared any other keys registered off the car.....cold comfort!

This was nearly 12 months ago now and I have not read anything to the contrary to date.
