2004 Ls430 Head Light Removal ?

hi guys

every time it rains i see moisture inside headlight, so plan is to take head light out take it apart clean it and reseal it.

I know you have to take bumper off but is there any other way of removing head light without having to remove bumper ?

or

any other moisture fix ?

good suggestion, but my worry is this moisture will eventually blow my ballast or HID bulb.

moisture / condensation building up every few days defo not good for ballast or bulbs

Point taken. I was still in the innocent world of 12 volt bulbs. I have just looked up the operating & firing voltages for HIDs !!

I don't know if you'll get anything from this, I couldn't open any info but your system may be different. Have you still got both covers that go on when the bulb is replaced? They also stop flies etc going in.

BTW, when I changed my bulbs, I put my smart phone down to get photos of the assembly as you can't see down there. It certainly makes fitting new bulbs easier. And make sure you've allowed the ballast units to discharge for a couple of minutes before putting your fingers down there, otherwise your hair may stand on end!

i noticed small bugs inside headlight so must be some big opening some where.

This is for the high beam which is easier, the low beam HID's are very different.

right so here is some update.

my both covers are fine and tight. after many searches online, conclusion is that you have to take bumper off.

I cant be bother with taking bumper off so I came up with alternative, Im not sure if its right or wrong but did the trick so i am happy so far.

Obviously there is some gap or leak somewhere causing moisture / water / air to get in. I though what if I make some room for cross ventilation.

I drilled small 4 x holes in round plastic back cover which covers main HID bulb. Holes are tiny but big enough for air to get in / out but not big enough to let bugs etc in.

Within 4 hours moisture disappeared and light is super dry now and no more moisture at all :)

.............. always used to just pop off, for an hour or two, the back covers from headlamps in olden days ( when I was young ) just to dry out the innards, moisture etc ..... then they made everything sealed up forever and impossible to easily remedy............ that's advancement in technology for you
