Hi,

My 2003 Sportcross has just developed a chirping noise coming from the engine when driving. I can't isolate exactly where its coming from though. The noise stops when I put the clutch is down. The car's performance is not affected at all, but I'm not sure what damage I'm likely to do driving with this noise. Has anyone had this before?

Could be release bearing in the clutch or input shaft bearing in the gearbox as it's affected by you pushing the clutch. Check your clutch fluid (should be brimmed to the max) and gearbox oil. No dipstick or resoivoir to check for the box, only way to check is to undo the fill plug on the gearbox and make sure it's full (can't get any more oil in there)

Ok, thanks. It could well be the gearbox oil. I've never checked this before.
