Remarkably good. The chap commented on it, bearing in mind it's 14 years old. I doubt it's ever seen a field and even though it's not garaged there was nothing worthy of comment.

The bodywork is doing well too and it's only the window rubbers that are looking a bit tired now.

For some reason I always feel apprehensive at mot time! What did surprise me was the first thing the bloke did was open the bonnet and check the fluid levels. Maybe they've always done that and I just haven't seen them do it?

Hi Keith,

I have the same problem with the window/door rubbers on my older Toyotas and the Lex - I got some silicone lubricant spray that I can use on a cloth and then run over the rubbers. It prolongs their life and slows them from perishing - when ever I have the wheels off, I also use it on the CV boots and steering rack gaitors. You could use Vaseline, but I don't want to run the risk of it getting on my clothes (when used near the windows) or being a dirt/dust magnet if used underneath the car!

Great news on your Lex MoT tho, happy days for another year!

They should always check the fluid levels now as they check temperatures and run the engines more for the emissions tests, they do not want to get caught out with no water in the system while they leave it ticking over getting up to temp.
