had a vehicle safety report carried out on my lexus while i had a recent recall done , they called me and said i had a leaking rear shock and both my rear callipers were seized and the pads were low, total bill £643.88 , i said i would think about it !!!!. near by to me is a speacialist garage which mainly deals with high end cars and i had a service and mot last year and they seemed really good , so i took the car in today for them to have a look, in there opinion there was no problem with the rear shock and they replaced the rear brake pads and in addition they needed a pin and spring fitting kit , total bill £172.21, bit of a difference !!!!

Totally agree - I think this is why there are a lot of owners that do the work on their cars themselves which is not a bad thing at all as it makes sure they are looked after - take the calipers for example

Its an easy job to grease them (I do mine every 6 months) - cost is a bit of grease and an hour or so of my time. Same with the oil and filter change £60 for the oil and filter and approx. 1 hour of my time (need to charge myself really !)

You could also add the sensors to that - cost from Lexus to supply/fit = £650, do yourself for £150.

I have not had something on it that I haven't managed to fix and had to go down the dealer route yet although the exhaust came close.

It's not the 1st time this week we've heard of this another member also had a leaking shock,an oil misting shock, a badly chipped windscreen and other bits on an MOT test.

Pleased mine is so old, bent paperclip diagnostics and a full OEM service manual saves me pounds :)

I have my 250 a year, It never entered my mind to take it to a main dealer when i bought it, even though it had all lexus stamps. I found a very good mechanic local to me. A year on and my car is totally trouble free, only problem i had thus far was the water pump, which was probably due anyway at the milage on the clock.
