Hi chaps

Just after a bit of expert advice

Would you recommend genuine lexus pads for an ls430 or is there no real difference in using good quality pads of another make?

I tend to lean towards genuine parts as a rule myself but am I just throwing money away?

Many thanks

Mark

I found the Toyota pads to be the best for ware and price.

If you don't mind the price, definately.

I had a Merc a few years ago, went to a great non-franchise Merc specialist who always worked on an emergency issue there and then, no booking or bggering about. They replaced my pads using Merc parts taht are made by a brand who supply, let's say a big, big motor factor. He checked his supply with Merc and I asked why he didn't source from xyz as he'd make more margin. He said they were supposed to be identical, same supplier, same box, but everytime he had fitted them - he ended up having to swop them out as customers complained about break squeal. Oh I said I've had that trouble too with pads from them for my Renault, Porsche and BMW (over time you understand...) I thought it was me...

I fit Mintex to my wife's Jag - excellent performance but need to be cleaned or they squeak a bit.

My ex Jag XKR had Brembos - I was terrifed - not of hitting anything in an quick stop, but of being hit in the back by a following vehicle where the driver could not appreciate 60-zero on a sixpence...

Now if I upgraded: I'd fit brembo discs and pads and would expect them to be safe from warping. That and exceptional performance. :driving:

Many thanks for the advice guys

Just spoke to my local lexus dealer and their price is the same as on eBay and they are going to drop them over to my home tomorrow

(That's over 15 miles from the dealership )

I know some dealerships get a bad press but I really have had excellent service every time I have dealt with them

That's good service. (They could bring the 'bickies' with them of course). I replaced mine with Mintex and have had no squealing or judder. Last a long time too.

OEM everytime, I've tried others like EBC Ultimate but dust and squeal beyond belief.

If you have a look on ebay there are some Toyota/Lexus dealers selling parts on there with discounted prices delivered to your door.

Here you go

Thanks for that, it's a really good bit of info. I had a look and they are charging less for headlight bulbs than I paid at Eurocarparts, Even air shocks are slightly less scary at £788 each!

I fitted Mintex, as they came with the discs as a package.

Very noisy when first fitted, especially at low speed, but improved after a short time, and never a problem as far as actual braking is concerned, still wouldn't fit them again though.

Personally, I'd go Ferodo or Lexus, though I'm sure there are other decent pads out there.
