Yet Another Transmission Fluid Question

My car was serviced by Toyota today, they said when I booked it in that they would top up the trans fluid to save me buying 5ltrs (after fitting an after market cooler) Now they say they can't and want to sell me the full amount at £60. Presumably that means if you have a Toyota and the fluid needs topping up you pay for 5ltrs, even if you only need a tiny amount!!

This Mobil fluid is available and according to a US site Mobil ATF 3309 is compatible with Type T1V, Anyone know if that's correct?

That is correct Phil , Toyota T1V is re-badged Mobil 3309 .

Thank you for that Rupert, I'm assuming I can get it easily enough without going online. Disappointing result from Toyota really, although I thought the fixed price full service was reasonable at £239. Especially as they said in their report everything is fine, apart from a chip on the windscreen and.... "THE ATF FLUID IS LOW"

You could try your local motor factors or Halfrauds , I never had any luck locally and ordered mine online even the Toyota garage didn't stock T1V .They use Dextron in everything apparently ,which didn't inspire much confidence ,they did have power steering reservoir O rings though so not a complete waste of time .

Good to know you have a clean bill of health with your car ,hopefully your new cooler will help avoid any nasty transmission problems in the future .

Apparently Volvo transmissions use the same Aisin transmission and their dealers should stock the Mobil stuff in 1ltr bottles.

Have you seen the Toyota Type IV prices in the USA about $4.00 a quart, please add 300% plus 20% VAT in the UK!.

Sneaky move by Lexus, IIRC they buy the stuff in bulk drums so what's a litre or 2 to them, customer service 0 profit margin 1

It's ridiculous the way we pay so much here. It's also ridiculous the way Toyota dealers seem to talk about Lexus as though its a family member they no longer get on with.

That's because they don't want to lose their franchise from Toyota GB.
