and look how cheap it is to fill up

But having worked in USA and lived the cheap life, still prefer our crazy European way of doing things, and our taxes that go with it.

Mind you try living in Denmark - makes living here seem like a bargain

You can't buy the versions that are cheap here, if you noticed there all kinds of options on the US models that add up when you get ,the full spec that is only offered in the UK .The US price quoted does not include the sales taxes that accrue when the car is purchased,Vat is usually included in UK quoted prices. The price for a comparative vehicle when all those factors are added brings them around the same price give or take dealership discounts.

The car is produced in Japan so currency fluctuations and import taxes also make a difference.

As for the cost of petrol as I often say to my american friends when they gasp at our prices ,But I got free medical cover and they would settle for that.

Many thanks for the full explanation Ambermarine.

It certainly helps a lot to understand the different pricing structures and no longer will I be able to look at US prices and say "huh, they have twice the spec at two thirds of the price!"

The currency fluctuation affects the pound as well as the dollar.

It's very true to say that there are more options available in the States. In the UK an LS600L with all the bits costs GBP101,500 (latest list price). The same top spec car in the States costs $121,500 (GBP77,500) so there is quite a difference.

I was in the USA for 6 months last year and the fuel price fluctuated between $2 and $3/US gal - except in California which is a different world.

However, I agree with Ambermarine...........I love visiting the place but wouldn't want to live there. :)
