Which Transmission Fluid?

Feeling lazy after walking 40 miles in Cornwall, so instead of doing a search, do Toyota sell different fluids or only one? I've fitted my new cooler, and as it'll be connected in the next few days I need a small amount of transmission fluid.

Thanks

There are different fluids depending on the age of the vehicle. Your owners manual should confirm but I'm 99.9% sure you need T-IV fluid. The switch to WS fluid was around 2004.

Thanks Colin, I suppose I shouldn't be so lazy, I will check the manual as well. I'll get some photos posted when the job is completed.

My original owner's manual states type II Dextron but as this is no longer available it has to be Type IV, there are equivalents under the Mobil brand made for some of the Volvo transmissions which are also Aisin.

It's the rip off price we have to pay here in the UK with Lexus charging around £60.00/5ltrs, in the USA it's around a 1/3 of this price so if you have someone with a large hold luggage allowance returning from the States...... :)

I went to my local Toyota dealer today and they said, "sorry, we only sell it in 5 ltr containers" I said I only want a small amount to fill the new cooler. The outcome was that I've booked it in with them for a full fixed price service and they're going to top up the transmission at the same time. So hopefully if I find the time to connect it all up at the weekend, it'll be topped up on Tuesday.

As you say, their price was £60 for 5 ltrs. As it happens my brother is off to New York soon....hmmm

I think the introduction of the 5 speed boxes brought in the change from a generic Dexron to T-IV, I guess around 1997.
